‘Haldi Kunku’ Pudding

‘Haldi Kunku’ Pudding

I’m sure the title caught your attention and for those who are familiar with Haldi Kunku, I can imagine the title intrigued you 🙂 In my never-ending quest to take traditional recipes and find new ways to serve them on the Bombay Howrah Dining Car menu, the latest Marathi dish I have decided to play […]

Open Sesame!

For me, Makar Sankranti has always been about eating halwa (sugar granules coated in sugar syrup) and homemade tilachi vadi and buying kites that I would then attempt to fly on our terrace with my father & grandfather! My grandmother and mother would sometimes join a haldi-kunku celebration (haldi = turmeric, kunku = vermillion worn on […]

Puja memories…

Growing up in Bombay, there were some dishes that only seemed to make their appearance during Puja. Almost as if those recipes would magically appear during those five days of October, and then retreat away into some misty mountain top – much like the myth of Maa Durga! That theory was clearly a product of […]

Possibly one of my favourite cuisines in China, Sichuan food is also dangerous to consume because I can never seem to put the brakes on a meal 😅 Delighted with our dinner at the House of Qi, a Michelin starred restaurant from Hong Kong. We tried our level best to balance the Mala dishes of dried chicken with cumin and chilli, chilli oil wontons and Ma Po tofu with cold cucumber, seasonal veggies and rice, but alas to no avail. It was the mango pomelo at the end that finally cooled things down. This is also a popular place with Indians it seems given 80% table occupancy! 😮 #sichuanfood #sichuan #mala #spicy #sichuanpepper #houseofqi #michelinstar #mapotofu #chicken #cucumber #chillioil #chillioildumplings #bhdcdinners #indianfavourite #lovespicy
Once every few days, I like to clear out all the leftovers in the fridge. And it's fun to apply a little creativity to pull them into a new dish Today's lunch was toasted corn rotis filled with pulled salmon teriyaki and coleslaw. Super delicious and the fridge is ready for a fresh batch of dishes 🙌 #corntortillas #cornflour #tacos #corntacos #salmon #salmonteriyaki #teriyaki #coleslaw #leftovers #creativity #fridgecleanout #bhdc
This plate holds one of my favourite snacks from Bombay...Ragda Pattice! I'm particularly happy with the potato Pattice... beautifully toasted and slightly crisp on the outside. Lots of maal-masala on top - imli chutney, coriander chutney, chaat masala, crispy onion, fresh onion and coriander. One of my favourite places to eat this was at Elco in Bandra - glad I can enjoy it at home now 😊 #ragdapattice #ragda #yellowpeas #vatana #pattice #potatocutlets #potatopatties #imlichutney #tamarindchutney #tamarind #corianderchutney #coriander #onion #elcoarcade #bombaymemories #mumbaimemories #homemade #bhdcdinners #bhdc #dinner
Weekday dinners be like this.... [From top left] tomato and purple cabbage salad, Bira white beer, homemade corn tortillas, crab koshimbir, homemade chickpea hummus and the most amazing fried cauliflowers ever! Now to settle in and watch some Netflix! #mezze #homecooking #homecooked #homemade #tomatoes #purplecabbage #salad #corntortillas #koshimbir #crabsalad #hummus #chickpeas #cauliflower #cauliflowers #birabeer #friedcauliflower #bhdcdinners #weekdaydinner
